L Says:Almost There
So, there are still lots of odds and ends to do to get the studio perfect (I expect there always will be!), but today we sat on our new studio couch, toasted to the space and kind of sat in awe at how much we’ve done in the past couple of weeks. It still hasn’t even been a month since this whole idea was just a glimmer, and we are basically a few electrical outlet faceplates away!
I should start out with a little hint of how geeky I’ve been with this whole remodel. I was so excited about it, I was up to something crazy like 2am doing “Photoshop Makeovers.” Here’s what I had envisioned (left is before, right is my mockup):

And, here’s the reality:

And here’s a quick look at the fantastic sitting area that Clare put together:

Thanks everyone for your support along the way! We can’t wait to start shooting in this space!

Looks awesome!
What’s funny is that I was thinking to myself “Wow, I really, REALLY love that red wall” (I’m a sucker for red, and for brightly colored walls, in general) but then when I scrolled down and saw the “reality” shots, I thought “Yep. That’s it. That’s how it should be. It looks like home.” I absolutely love it!
Congratulations, you guys!
Thanks Jackie!
You know the red wall wasn’t so bad, but really wouldn’t work for more than about 1 photo shoot. We needed something that kind of happily fades into the background… light and neutral… so that the subject really stands out on it.
I’m thinking we can pull more color in for specific shoots by changing the dishes that sit on the shelves above the sink.
Thanks again!
What a beautiful space. I love the colours
Wow. I hope you’re all free this weekend to come makeover my kitchen . . . and get it featured on design*sponge . . . .
Congratulations – it’s really lovely.
what color/brand paint did you use on the cabinets? Love the gray-blue tone.
Hi Lara, I am so excited to see the space in person. I just signed up for both of your upcoming classes. Natural Light and Low Light Photography! So so excited! Love from Canada, Tina
I was wondering where the kitchen island/table was from.. its absolutely perfect! does anyone know??
Brilliant. I love how it looks without the cabinets over the sink. I also love the color of the cabinets with the butcher block counter tops. Can I ask what color you used on the cabinets?
Kirsten, the island is from IKEA.
As for the paint color, neither of use can remember the exact name, but it’s from the Martha Stewart line. I’ll try to remember to get the name when I am at the studio next time.
Hi all,
The paint color on the cabinets is SlipStream (MSL272) by Martha Stewart Living at HomeDepot. It is an eggshell finish.
Also, the main wall color is Ash White (W-F-520) Behr and the beadboard is Frost (W-F-500) also Behr. Both of these are semi-gloss.
The island is the IKEA Stenstorp kitchen island. The stools are IKEA InGolf in counter height.
We’re thinking of replacing the grey counter top with the same butcher block as the island… but that may take a while to get to!

It’s beautiful! Hearty congratulations on all your work and how beautifully it turned out. Can’t wait to see it next week!
P.S. Maybe you should come to Austin and put on some workshops too!
