I’m sure you all have heard that Heidi Swanson, author and photographer extraordinaire, not to mention one of the sweetest people that I know, will be in Seattle tomorrow, Saturday April 30th. She’ll be spending the day at Remodelista Market (11-4pm) signing books, and then she is heading over to Spare Room for a casual evening of signing and mingling from 6pm to 8pm. Heidi’s books (as well as my book, Doughnuts) will be available to purchase.

I hope you’ll be able to join us! There will be some bubbly stuffs to drink, a few nibbles and since I’ll be there, some sort of doughnut truffle concoction. You remember doughnut truffles, right?

If you are planning on coming down to Spare Room for the event, let me tell you a little something about parking. There is still a ridiculous amount of construction going on right around the studio, so there is unlikely to be much in the way of street parking. Do not take a chance and park in the Bemis Residents lot; you almost certainly will get towed. Instead, there are two paid parking lots next to the Great Floors store that are reasonably priced (It’s either $6 or $10 for the evening). Park there, and then head over towards all the big orange barrels that seem to barricade the entrance to the Bemis Building. We’ll have someone at the door to let you in and direct you where to go!

(Here’s a link to the map to get to Spare Room.)

Well, it took a bit of planning, but I have FINALLY set the date for the very first Farm Photo Safari: Tuesday, September 7th, 2010.

I am so excited about this class!!

The workshop will take place on Vashon Island, where participants will tour two farms. We will start at Seabreeze Farm, where we’ll spend some time with the cows, chickens, pigs, ducks, and sheep, and then we’ll head off to photograph the Seabreeze butcher shop, located right next to La Boucherie.

After that, we’ll move on to Kurtwood Farms, and check out Kurt’s lovely property, animals, vegetable gardens and new cheese cave, (which is pretty darn cool.)

The last part of the day will focus on natural light food photography, using some of the ingredients produced by these two farms.

*Lunch and transportation on the island will be provided.

DATE: Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

TIME: 9am until approximately 4 or 5pm
